Wootton Bassett immediately brought the game to their opposition Phoenix & Raneleigh. Suzanne Coles started off the first friendly of the year scoring in the first few minutes with a gentle deflection. The continued pressure by the home team brought a further goal by persistent pressure from Jenny Jones, putting the ball between the keeper's pads from close range. The game then changed with the opposition holding the ball and converting a short corner into a goal to make it 2-1. Bassett continued to work hard, forcing a short corner goal themselves; A very clean strike by Annabel Springthorpe and subsequent rebound was swiftly picked up by Jenny Jones, finishing the first half 3 -1.
The second half started the same as the first with Bassett showing great possession with several crosses by Katy Cox and a further goal converted by Katherine Chapman. The opposition gained some open play for a period of time and managed to score their second goal making it 4-2. Bassett then switched the play with a quick break away and run by Suzanne Coles striking from a near corner and deflecting in off the keeper's pads. Further opportunities came for Bassett with a final reverse stick goal to complete a hat-rick for Jenny Jones and player of the match. The final result was 6 -2 giving the home team the much needed boost to start the league next week.
