Despite many attacks and the majority of possession Bassett B only managed a draw!

Mat Henshaw
Sat 29th October 11 18:02 Wootton Bassett 3rd team faced their 6th match against Chippenham C. With this second home match, all the players were determined to win after the defeat against Swindon B.

After a quick warm up and teamtalk, both sides were ready and the game was under way. Wootton Bassett reacted instantly and put pressure on the Chippenham side and forced them to play down the wings, where the ball was won several times by Bassett. The possesion was equal but seemed to favour Wootton Bassett after a wide ball played was passed out to Andy Lyons who ran to the top of the D and swept the ball from a tight angle into the top left side of the goal and gave the home team a 1-0 lead. The pressure then mounted back onto Bassett as Chippenham advanced for the counterstrike. However thanks to the defensive wall of Rupert Pearce, Dave Gardner and Robin Cook some brilliant tackles and clearances were made to keep the ball away from the D. After building the pressure and attacking from Chippenhams forwards they won themselves a few short corners, and with newly recruited goalkeeper Pete Sammon, the goal seamed inpregnable. However after a third short corner a quick, clean stop and strike from Chippenham sent the ball into the left side of the goal that gave them equalizer just after the start of the second half.

Imediatly after the goal Wootton Bassett moved up to put the pressure back on Chippenham. Desperate to put another strike into the back of the goal Bassett pressed hard. Dale Titcombe and James Wright made some brilliant tackles, passes and runs to keep the possesion back in Bassetts favour. The ball was continuously passed down the right wing which passed to Richard Appleby who made some excellant crosses into the D but frustratingly didn't result in any goals. Jack Twine and Tony Cooper both had a crack at goal but unfortunately their efforts did not produce anything. Wootton Bassett made one last effort to attack the goal. A well timed pass from Dale Titcombe came to Tony Cooper who was inches away from the open goal & the shot was desparately cleared to the side from The visitors. The full time whistle came soon after with the sides equalled at 1-1.
