Wootton Bassett B 1 - 1 Marlborough B

Wootton Bassett Mens 3rds attacked from the start and had the better of the opening exchanges against Marlborough 3rds with wingers Ben Hares and Oli Sighe pressing the opposition back. The more experienced Marlborough team gradually gained the upper hand and created a couple of chances before opening the scoring mid way through the half when the Bassett defence was split leaving keeper Mike Hayward with no chance. Marlborough pressed for another goal before the interval but were thwarted by crucial interceptions from Robin Cook and Harry Horton.
The second half saw the visitors continue to have the better of the game but Bassett held firm with Dan Birmingham, Brandon Dewsbury and Fraiser Thomas making crucial challenges to break down the attacks. With a quarter of the game to go Bassett upped their efforts in their search for an equaliser driven forward by the midfield trio of Dave Miles, Ryan Vincent and Adam White and with 10 minutes remaining forced a short corner. The first effort was saved leading to a second short corner where Bassett switched to their alternative routine and Neil Saunders smashed the ball home. In the frantic final minutes both teams had chances to snatch a win but the draw was a great result for the young Bassett team.
