West Wilts started strongly with a few chances early on that were well saved by Jack Rose. Bassett started to come back and it wasn't long before Bassett's first chance. Anthony Matthews found himself 1 on 1 with the keeper which forced a good save. The game was end to end with both teams having several more chances, Bassett could so easily have clinched the lead when Rob White's strike went just wide. As the half went on Bassett lost their shape and errors became evident from the defence and midfield. West Wilts took this in their stride and continued their pressure but were unable to finish any chances off before half time.
The start of the second half continued as the first had left a few careless mistakes from Bassett and strong pressure from West Wilts. West Wilts then clinched the lead through a short corner. Bassett picked up their play after the goal and a combination of passing from the Bassett strikers saw Matt Jakubiec and Rob White with chances in the D. West Wilts then punished Bassett further when a quick counter attack produced the second goal of the game. Bassett did not give up the fight and kept battling winning several short and long corners. Bassett found a goal through Matthews as he picked up the deflected short corner and flicked it into the goal. This made for an exciting closing 10 minutes with both teams looking for that next goal, Bassett created chances but attacking through the middle against a five man defence proved fruitless.
It finished 2-1, Bassett really deserved more out of the close game. Next week they face the top of league Malborough A who haven't dropped a point all season!
