Bassett returned to the academy this week with a very different look out to the week before. James Wright joined for his season debut in the midfield, and last minute call up Tom Dubarry completed the bare 11 team sheet, after impressing over summer league and his performances in the 3rd XI.
Bassett started strong, with controlled play looking for opportunities to attack the D, winning 2 short corners in quick succession. The ball was played back across the the face of the goal for Dubarry to put Bassett 1-0 up in 10 minutes.
Devizes attacked well against a strong defence lead by keeper Rose, but conceded a short corner. D's talisman opted to flick the ball, only to see Luke Salisbury take a goal line clearance in midair and out the back for a long corner. Midfielders Siggins and Hiles controlled the midfield with some cracking tackles and interceptions.
The second half was much the same as the first, with Bassett edging closer for a second whilst smothering any Devizes attacks. A loose ball off the Devizes keeper found itself fall in front of Appleby to push into an empty net, doubling the lead.
Bassetts final goal this time was provided by Tom Dubarry after a mazey run down the right wing and a cross into D, for the 2s in form striker, Charlie Knight, to tuck away his 4th goal of the season and score in 3 consecutive games.
As the final minutes were ticking down, Devizes scored a well worked consolation goal as a ball was pinged into the D for a well taken deflected goal. Final whistle 3-1 Bassett.
Making his debut, a goal and an assist, Tom Dubarry took the Man of the match award.
