Bassett came into the game on the back of a poor result against Devizes knowing that 3 points against a strong Cirencester team would allow Bassett to keep the title chase in their hands.
Bassett came out of the blocks flying, putting great pressure on their opposition. Setting a solid press and breaking in numbers allowed Bassett to take a handle of the game. A lovely flowing move found Anthony Matthews at the top of the D to hammer a slap through the keepers legs. Bassett quickly followed up with another lovely goal, with Kyle Barnes and Mark Turner up top combining, with the latter unselfishly passing to Kyle for a tap in. Bassett finished the half on the ascendency and were unlucky not to finish more.
Second half brought a determined Cirencester who mounted great pressure on the Bassett defence. Some brilliant defending was eventually undone by a lovely finish from Cirencester to bring the game close. Bassett did manage to regain their 2 goal lead moments later when Daryl broke through the defence and cooly finished past the keeper. Cirencester kept pushing and were firmly on top, some amazing defence from the Bassett backline was undone by a fierce short corner from Ciren. With pressure continuing to mount Bassett held on for a hard fought 3-2 win. A massive result in front of a great crowd. Big mention to man of the match Gareth Edwards for a stand out defensive performance.
