Wootton Bassett Ladies' 1st XI ground out a well deserved 3-2 win against Leominster.

Wootton Bassett started very positively against a team just above them in the league. With some dominating & slick passing Bassett piled on the pressure on right from the off. But the host team needed to be patient as Leominster's defence were not letting anything through. Wootton Bassett continued to press, winning a short corner which was converted with a great strike from the top of the semi-circle by Tegan Buchanan to finally break Leominster's defence & taking Wootton Bassett to a 1-0 lead at half time.

Wootton Bassett knew Leominster were not going to sit back and so with their heads held high and keeping the same positive attitude as the first half Wootton Bassett went back out and continued with the incisive passing up the field which resulted in another cracking goal in open play from Emma Collison. Keeping the pressure up Wootton Bassett scored from another short corner but this time the shot came from the left of the semi-circle by Katy Cox to put Bassett into a 3-0 lead. However, Leominster did not sit back and were awarded a short corner which result in a goal. Then shortly after the restart Leominster broke through in open play to make the score 3-2. This gave Leominster the inspiration they needed, playing some counter attacking hockey resulting in a Bassett player receiving a yellow card and the home side being reduced to 10 players with just 10 minutes left on the clock. Bassett had to quickly re group and soak up the intense pressure Leominster put on them but Bassett stood strong and were not letting the lead slip. The 3-2 win which takes Bassett above Leominster and up to 4th in the North Division.
