Wootton Bassett women thrash Blockley 8-1

Wootton Bassett started tentatively, soaking up some early pressure. Emma Collison picked up a ball in midfield and drove for the line, putting in an inch perfect cross to Tegan Buchanan who smashed the ball into the top of the goal to put the home team ahead. Wootton Bassett then continued to press, winning a short corner which was converted decisively by Buchanan. The pressure continued, with Collison and Buchanan combining to put pressure on the goalkeeper, who managed to put the ball into the path of Suzanne Coles who fired it home for Bassett's third. Blockley didn't give up, and the game went end to end. Blockley put a speculative ball into the semi circle, which resulted in an own goal from the Wootton Bassett goalkeeper and made the score 3-1 at the half time break.

Wootton Bassett came out in the second half looking inspired, and it wasn't long before Suzanne Coles added a second goal with a strong strike in open play. Suzanne Coles turned provider as she then set up a goal by Abi Iles. Further pressure on the Blockley goal resulted in the ball bouncing loose to Katy Cox who made no mistake when left with an open goal to fire at. Wootton Bassett won a number of short corners, and the break down of one left Collison to get a touch on a shot for Wootton Basset's seventh goal. Iles added her second sweeping in a cross in inspired fashion, to take the score to 8-1.
