Wootton Bassett started positively, maintaining possession and playing some nice hockey. It was no surprise when they took the lead; an incisive shot from Tegan Buchanan on a short corner finding the net early on. Wootton Bassett continued to dominate and should have put the game beyond reach, but could not make their chances count. Despite their dominance, they could only take a 1-0 lead into the half time break.
The second half started in similar fashion, with Wootton Bassett dominating but unable to find the all-important second goal. Westberries started to counter attack, and the match went end to end for a period of time before Wootton Bassett lost the ball in the middle of the pitch and the Westberries counter attack caught the defence out of position. With less than 5 minutes remaining, Buchanan sprinted back to cover, and made it to a perfect defensive position only for the Westberries forward to trip, fall and knock the ball past the 'Bassett goalkeeper who also appeared to be expecting a shot rather than the trip and nudge. Westberries had levelled a game that should have been out of their reach, and it would have been understandable for the Wootton Bassett team to have let their heads drop, but conceding the goal seemed to give them the spark they had been looking for, and they surged forward. Winning a short corner, the ball was played out to Vic Sammon who passed incisively to Becky Johnson. Johnson held the ball up long enough to commit the defence, then found play of the match Sammon in space who fired home in the dying seconds for a 2-1 win.
The points see Wootton Bassett move up to 6th in the North Division of the West Women's Hockey League.
