Weymouth 7 - 1 Wootton Bassett

After making the long journey down to Weymouth the away side were keen to get back to playing league hockey after last week’s match was postponed. Bassett had a good five minute spell of attack at the start of the first half with Rebekah Taylor coming close to opening the scoring at the far post but it quickly seemed to go downhill for the out of practice Bassett side. Weymouth opened the scoring early on in the half after a good spell of possession. Bassett never seemed to recover from letting the goal in and struggled to string together passes which put them under a lot of pressure for the remainder of the half. Weymouth scored another three goals before the half time break making the score 4-0. At half time Bassett tried to regroup and get some motivation to come back fighting in the second half, but unfortunately for the away side the second half bought much the same as the first. Weymouth got their 5th goal early on in the second half leaving Bassett with an uphill struggle for the rest of the match. Bassett did however manage to get a goal back through Emma Collison after a breakdown of a short corner routine allowed her to tuck the ball just inside the left post from close range with a reverse stick push. Weymouth continued to work the ball around the pitch well, pulling the Bassett team apart and added a further two goals to their tally making the final score 7-1. Becky Thomas was voted player of the match for Bassett, which was well deserved for a great performance in centre midfield. Bassett look to dust themselves off and come back strong next week for their home match against Gillingham at 10:45.
