Bassett were looking forward to playing at home this week after a string of away matches and were hoping to continue their recent form, however from the onset it was clear this was not going to be the case! Frome played the better hockey for the majority of the match, but especially the first half when Bassett seemed to struggle to get the ball out of their own half and the few times they did they failed to take advantage of the chances. The Frome midfield worked the ball round the midfield effectively pulling the Bassett defence out of line, Bassett battled hard but didn't seem up to their usual standards and unfortunately let in a goal mid way into the half. Frome maintained much of the possession for the remainder of the half but good saves from Meg Emms in goal kept Bassett in with a chance.
The half time break seemed to give Bassett a new lease of energy as they started the second half well, Katy Cox did some great runs down the left wing and both Abi Iles and Rebekah Taylor came close to scoring. Helen Wright got Bassett’s first from an impressive straight strike from a short corner early on in the half which seemed to really lift Bassett’s spirits. Shortly after Emma Collison added to the score line when a strike from the top of the D in open play beat the Frome keeper. Minutes later Taylor got Bassett’s third goal when she slotted the ball nicely into the corner of the goal after latching onto a rebound off of the keeper. At 3-1 Bassett had done well to turn the match around, yet Frome were fighting back and Bassett’s game seemed to falter once more. The Frome attackers were working hard down the wings and really testing the Bassett defence in the home side’s D. Frome got their second goal from a well worked passage of play down the right which ended in an accurate strong shot past Emms. Bassett were on edge for the last few minutes of the match and regrettably gave away a short corner just before the final whistle which was controversially converted making the final score 3-3. Bassett were left feeling disappointed with their performance and look to pick themselves up for their cup match tomorrow away against Hereford. Collison was voted player of the match.
