From the starting whistle Bassett were put under pressure from the Devizes side, the home team were working the ball well around midfield and using their fast wingers to good effect. The Bassett defence battled hard but eventually mid way into the half Devizes broke the deadlock to score their first. However Bassett got the score back level within minutes when Rebekah Taylor got a deflecting touch on a cross into the Devizes ‘D’ which wrong footed the keeper. Shortly after Devizes won a penalty flick when a shot heading into goal hit a Bassett foot but the Bassett goalie Meg Emms saved the flick keeping the score 1-1. Bassett then picked up the pace and their players worked well together to get the ball up the pitch and create chances. Abi Iles set up Emma Collison with a one on one chance with the keeper but her shot was saved, however when Becky Thomas set Collison up with a similar chance not long after Collison made sure she converted this time with a lifted sweep over the diving keeper making the score 2-1 at half time.
Bassett were the better side in the second half and soon got their 3rd goal from a powerful straight strike by Tegan Buchanan off of a short corner. The home side did win many short corners in this half but the Bassett defenders held strong and Emms wasn’t letting anything get past her in goal. Player of the match Katy Cox made lots of quick runs down the left wing throughout the match creating many chances for Bassett. One run lead to a short corner being awarded to Bassett which Becky Thomas scored her first goal of the season from with a drag flick. The final score was 4-1 and after other results in their league going Bassett’s way this week they lie in 3rd place on 13 points behind Bournemouth and Salisbury both on 14 points. Bassett face Frome at home this coming Saturday.
