Bassett played host to Wimbourne this week; Bassett had a steady start with some good attacking play by Rebekah Taylor and Katy Cox down the wings, however five minutes in, a high deflection off of a Wimbourne stick left Bassett’s key central defender Helen Wright with a facial injury needing hospital attention. Bassett players had to change positions and try to regroup in her absence but they never seemed to settle fully throughout the remainder of the match.
Both halves were fairly similar, lots of pressure from Wimbourne as they were taking advantage of Bassett losing one of their defenders but Tegan Buchanan who stepped into Wright’s shoes did an excellent job of thwarting any chances they created. Vic Sammon also played tirelessly in defence getting some great tackles in on the edge of the Bassett D. Bassett did have the odd attack by Abi Turner and Kelly Lusted but without the support from the rest of the team who were stuck in their defensive half they struggled to create many chances. In the last ten minutes Bassett really had to dig in hard to keep this match a draw, Meg Emms in goal made some great saves and Becky Parkhurst also made two saves off the line! Overall this was not the prettiest of games but no one could fault any of the Bassett player’s efforts to help keep the result 0-0. Buchanan was voted player of the match. The well earned point keeps Bassett in 2nd place in the East Division table. Bassett will travel to Mendip next Saturday 25th for a 10:30 match.
