Wootton Bassett Ladies 1st team travelled to Bath to play their last friendly before starting league matches next week. Bassett were expecting it to be a tough match from the start as City of Bath play in the league above them and finished in 5th position last season. City of Bath started strongly with some early attacks into the Bassett D, but some great saves by goalkeeper Meg Emms kept the ball out of the net. Bassett had their fair share of attacks with both Abi Iles and Vic Sammon having some good chances but unfortunately they were unable to convert them. Late on in the first half City of Bath finally broke the deadlock by scoring their first goal, after an initial tackle by joint player of the match Becky Parkhurst rebounded nicely to the opposition, who slotted it passed Emms. The second half bought much the same as the first; City of Bath applied sustained pressure which was soaked up by the Bassett defence, including some excellent work from joint players of the match Helen Wright and Tegan Buchanan. Bassett were unlucky not to capitalise on a few break away chances which were against the run of play but the City of Bath goalie made some admirable saves. City of Bath got goal number two mid way into the second half after a rebound from a diving save from Emms ended up being lifted high into the Bassett net. The remainder of the match was fairly even with both sides fighting hard but the score remained at 2-0. Bassett were happy with a good team performance ahead of playing Salisbury 2nds away next Saturday.
