Wootton Bassett ladies faced visitors Pheonix Ranleigh in a friendly match on Saturday. The match was played with a degree of Christmas cheer, with captain Emma Langdon playing the first half in a Santa costume.
Despite the Christmas spirit, both teams came out hard and played some nice passing hockey. Pheonix went ahead through a deflection on from a well worked short corner. Wootton Bassett fought back though, and Emma Collison scored a nice individual effort to level the game. Pheonix scored again just before half time to make it 2-1 at the break.
Again Wootton Bassett fought back, Katy Cox firing home to level the match. It wasn't to be though, and Pheonix scored a lovely goal into the top of the net from a strong cross. There were further chances for both teams, with player of the match Helen Wright remaining strong in defence, and Tegan Buchanan powering through the middle on a number of occasions.
The match finished 3-2 to the visitors. The team are back in league action after the Christmas break.
