Last time Bassett faced Marlborough, Bassett were breezed aside, however this did not stop the good spirit around the team for the game on Saturday.

Marlborough A displayed from the off why they are the team with a 100% win record scoring after just a minute. Bassett though after this goal kept control of the ball and it wasn't long until Bassett found themselves with a surprising equaliser Luke Salisbury playing the ball into the D and Jakeem Lee with a clever hit tricking the keeper. Both teams capitalised on the break and Marlborough forced several short corners managing to convert one to retake the lead. Bassett still kept fighting and should really have scored a few more goals John Terry coming close and Matt Jakubiek even closer putting his shot narrowly wide when one on one with keeper. Marlborough managed to snatch a late goal in the last attack of the first half, rather against the run of play.

Bassett knew that they were very much still in the game and could have actually been leading at the break. The second half was much the same both teams were strong on the attack, it was just a case of who scored. Bassett were the first to score when a slick passing move from one half to another fell to Matt Jakubiek who's rebound fell to Martyn Chivers to convert. Marlborough instantly hit back at Bassett with some skilful play. Bassett kept up the good work with strong tackling and managed to keep attacking, with Stu Bell forcing a save from the keeper. Marlborough kept up the pressure to form a wider margin getting several short corners and was able to convert two of them before the end of the match.

Easily one of Bassett's best performances of the season, the change in formation really played a key impact on the game. Bassett should take a lot of heart and pride from this game, the whole team playing that well against a team that should be several divisions higher. Bassett really need to display similar performances for the final two games of the season if they want to challenge for fourth place.
