Wootton Bassett A 4-2 West Wilts C

Bassett's first league game back after the winter break saw them face West Wilts in what is usually a hardly fought contest. Bassett took their time finding the first goal, finding it difficult to beat West Wilts key man Colin. Bassett broke through when a run out wide and a sleek one-two passing between Rob White and Lawrence Winter, saw Rob White powering a shot into the bottom corner. Rob White clinched Bassett's second of the game with a powerful chip shot beating the West Wilts keeper. Bassett made it 3-0 before the break when Jakeem Lee's cross into the D fell to skipper Luke Sailsbury who smashed a shot into the corner. At the break Bassett were looking comfortable and showing signs of the form they displayed in the earlier stages of the season.

Unfortunately the beginning of the second half went in the favour of West Wilts. With a few mistakes from Bassett's defence which West Wilts took in their stride to score two past Bassett. After this lapse Bassett started working the ball better again and were forcing opportunities at the top of the D causing the West Wilts keeper to make several impressive saves. Bassett finalised the scoring when a good one two in the D between Anthony Matthews and Dan Stanley, was well hit by Stanley hard into the corner. Bassett maintained their structure and authority but failed to capitalise with more goals.

Bassett will be happy taken three points from the first game back after the winter break; however will need to finish the chances they get when facing tougher opposition in a few weeks time.
